Touring around Saint Andeol you will discover one quaint and charming village after another, each more exquisite than the previous one.  Some of the many highlights include Alba La Romaine and its Roman Antique Theater and archeological site, Balazuc, Antraigues, Thines (a tiny ancient village in the middle of a chestnut tree forest) and many more.  Around every turn is a historic village, exquisite Romanesque church, satisfying country restaurant or colorful market.

The Ardeche is also crisscrossed by marked trails which are part of a countrywide system of 'randonees' for ardent hikers and walkers.  The rugged terrain provides plenty of challenge and the everchanging landscape never bores.  Each tourist office usually has maps of the trails.

You can venture further afield to Vallon Pônt D’Arc, only a short 20 minutes by car, location of the world-famous CAVE OF CHAUVET PONT D’ARC, with charcoal drawings made approximately 31,000 years ago. The Chauvet Cave is regarded and one of the most significant pre-historic art sites in the world. An exhibit and visitor center document the discovery and exploration of the caves, which were only recently discovered in 1994 by three cave explorers.  The Vallon Pônt D’Arc, with its unusual rock formation along a fast flowing river, is also a center for sports and recreation, especially boating, hiking and kayaking.

In July and August you will appreciate the Classical Music Festival of Labeaume, an open-air theater on the Ardeche River, facing the gorge.  Throughout the Ardeche there are many other festivals, exhibitions and concerts.  A short distance from St Andeol is the lovely Vals les Bains and its famous mineral sparkling water and SPA.
